The only reason this was worth consuming is that it’s a Dahl story, and that automatically makes it great. Otherwise, as a movie, it’s very flawed. The actor who plays Luke is completely nondescript, Angelica Houston is wasted, and the general tone of the film is too literal—not surreal enough. Too much money spent on special effects and not enough effort building suspense and real creepiness.
