While The Bourne Supremacy may deviate greatly from the novel of the same name, I’ve never read it, so I can only judge the film on its own merits. As it stands, it’s a good enough action movie, with some great actors and some amazing action sequences (as Sarah said below: car chase!). The story’s a little unbelievable, but there are excellent moments and snippets of dialogue. And it helps that the actors are of high caliber: Joan Allen, Brian Cox, and Matt Damon give better performances than one would expect from your average action movie. It reminded me of the old Connery Bond movies (especially From Russia With Love), where he had a few gadgets but otherwise relied on his wits and his fists. This is the kind of spy action movie I want to see more of, not the plastic blandness of Die Another Day. The extras on this DVD are interesting and really watchable, particularly the feature on the Go-Mobile. The Bourne Supremacy isn’t great cinema, but it’s a fun ride with great action. Recommended.
