being a child of color i am always a little wary of black and white films. love the cookie, love the relationships, but somehow have never jumped on the b+w film bandwagon. that being said i don’t think this movie would have been able to be made in color. it would have lost it’s appeal, at least to me. the movie was good, especially for the time-frame. loneliness and loss of childhoood, trying to fill the void of being abandoned with everyone loving him, resonates throughout the flick. (i didn’t put it together until the sled at the end but i am v. slow). the only thing i found hokey was when kane was destroying his wife’s bedroom at xanadu. all i kept thinking was RAARRR i’m a big monster destroying a dollhouse. all in all i’m glad i watched it.
