Neverwhere: A Novel

WORTH CONSUMING!

Splendid! I loved this book and I’m going to try to track down the BBC 2 series it was based on (also written by Neil Gaiman). Croup and Vandemar are hilarious and terrifying.

This book kind of reminded me of the Montmorency books by Eleanor Updale. (Liar Thief Gentleman? being the first one) I would recommend them if you like this.

It also had echoes of Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy—a clueless main character gets swept up in a funny/scary world beyond what he was previously aware of.

oh!

Did the tv show come first? I didn’t know that!

BBC, eh?

I’ll be looking for that, and the Updale book!

And, as I was searching for info on the DVD, I noticed Gaiman is involved in plans for a big screen version, for 2009, perhaps.

Neverwhere the tv series is dismal (80s and dismal, if things couldn’t be any worse), sad to say – and so’s the comic book. Sorry, graphic novel. Stay with the novel in book form, purity and all that, and the world will be all right.

HHGTTG (or H2G2), the original radio series is excellent, simply marvelous. There’s some noise about the cd set from Amazon.com being rubbish, but I wouldn’t know about that – I have mine transferred from hi-q recordings of the originals. The book is recommended, and the movie. Well… it’s a few hours of amusement to say the least.

42.

Oh, and don’t panic. ;)
