Oh my lord, it has been years and I had completely forgotten how incorrigibly meanspirited Harriet is about absolutely everyone—no wonder her classmates rise against her! I remember enjoying this immensely as a child, when I think I was simultaneously more cruel and more tender. An astonishing book—Harriet is utterly believable.

This was one of my favorite books as a child! I actually was inspired to write in my own little secret notebook – vicious nasty little things about my clasmates, comeplete with curse words to boot. I got busted when I was out sick with the chicken pox. The teacher decided to have everyone clean out their desks…some of my friends volunteered ot clean out mine, and there you go, notebook found, I was busted. I got suspended for 2 days!!! and ostracized by the other kids for a while.
