NOT WORTH CONSUMING

I really wanted to like this book, but it ended up being a bit of fluff, and not even particularly entertaining at that.

I enjoyed it and am looking forward to reading more Jane Austen books now – I’d previously only read Emma (and seen Clueless!)

I enjoyed going through the Austen books and even liked some of the discussion points the book brought up. Ultimately, though, this had almost no substance. It lived at the top level of the ocean and never went deeper. It felt like an abridged version of itself.

As an Austen fan, i wanted to love this novel. But whereas Austen had substance behind her words, this book does not. It is a light, enjoyable read – and can be easily finished in a couple of hours – but it is easily forgettable once you put it down. I also left the book feeling that it was a cunningly written marketing tool – knowing that it would appeal to the literati and be snapped up by book clubs around the globe.
