every time I read this, I feel like I’m going crazy. it’ll do that to you. but I think gilman’s corresponding piece, “why I wrote the yellow wallpaper,” is also important to read in order to understand what was going on with the treatment of women’s mental health at the time. thankfully there are writers like gilman around.
