I stick by my earlier description. The book is interesting but not happy. Some of the characters and plot twists are quite disturbed. Think rape, incest, lack of human respect, and deception in very important areas. At least two of the characters are reprehensible.

Book on CD from library. So far this book is odd, interesting, and unhappy. We’ll see how it rounds out.

I’m hooked after the first chapter.

Fits in well with my “All Oprah books are depressing” theory. Interesting? Yes. Uplifting? No way.

Another Oprah book or my Oprah class. Now that I have declared my pro-Oprah stance I am ready to give this one another go. I tried to read it about a year ago (or so?) and found it way too depressing and looooong. But, being a roving pirate queen, i do not give up.
