Oh Mr. Norton... — 8 weeks ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

Would love to see Edward Norton in a movie where he doesn’t have to underact until all the mystical pieces come together. Also, constantly wondered when Jessica Biel’s upper lip was going to explode.

Otherwise, enjoyable, beautifully made, plot-driven movie with enough “big moral questions” to add some weight and make a person feel like the two hours in the seat was an investment. I quite liked it.

WORTH CONSUMING!

Wow.
First i love how they presented the story, like a flashback, perfect for the film and how it was to unfold.
I’ve heard a bit about edward norton apparently a great actor, so i decided i would observe more intently than usual the acting of the characters.
At first i was like huh, look up, look down etc… thats his trick? but then as movie went on your learnt more about his character and he seemed to fit it perfectly, and the ever so subtle changes in his face, and his voice was great througought the whole movie =] and i have to add he is hot as =]
Paul giamati, okay this isnt what i’d seen him in before at all!
So it was great to see him do something different to what i’d seen and he managed to pull off the last part of the movie without looking to fake or corny either.
Jessica biel, i didnt pay to much attention to her… when i see her i just look at her face and how pretty she is =]
Rufus, TYPE CAST WOAH BIG TIME!
dickhead much? cocky much? high status much? errr yes?
knights tale, dickhead high status knight
The holiday, cocky (supposedly hot) manipulative, guy and a total peoples person.
some devil movie… where he was the devil? need i say more?
this movie… an arrogant prince.
i can’t think of anymore but get my point?
Now the lighting(althought a bit too dark), colouring, contrast, vignetting, perfection lovely, really set the mood and obviosly made it look good =]
storyline…. GREAT loved it! one thing, i wish the ending had a little bit more time to unfold rather than a quick flash back and the cop smiling and the couple re-uniting, it didnt give me time to let it sink in and really appreciate the trick of it.
and then the last part and the most obvious, the illusions, gave the movie a lovely little kick made you feel enlightened i suppose =]
And also, the wardrobe; It actually made me a bit confused one second they were wearing clothing similar to that of cinderella next they were wearing that of the time… i mean im i suppose i didn’t know that they were around at the same time and i found it hard to figure what time it was based in then realised around 19-20th century because of the photographs and prjector.
i mean i couldn’t of been expected to know that =]
well thats my review doubt anyone will read it but thanks if you did and thanks even more if you valued my opinion =]

Well acted and enjoyable, but pretty predictable. The shock ending wasn’t very shocking… Also, couldn’t get past Jake Wood (Max from Eastenders) as the police officer.

It took me three days to watch this. I nodded off twice. Despite the slow pace of the film, it’s worth watching. Ed Norton and Jessica Biel play their parts well … youthful friends separated by class and time, reunited by fate and blocked from happiness by a would-be emperor. Paul Giamatti puts in an admirable performance as Leopold’s inspector general/wannabe police chief. The illusions are mostly smoke and mirrors, but they serve a purpose. The “sword in the stone” sequence is particularly good. Try to see this movie in a single sitting if you can.

WORTH CONSUMING!

I don’t like beards on guys. Really, it’s not something I’m in to.

But I was literally dreaming of Edward Norton’s beard for days on end after watching this film. Absolutely loved it, absolutely loved him.

A little romance, a few tricks, nothing to change the world but fun and pretty to look at, I’d say. Enjoy!

Really nice. I would give it 8/10. Nice tricks. And I loved the beginning. It was so heart-warming that I believed all the time they would meet again. So they did. Somewhat cute, and very interesting.

WORTH CONSUMING!

one problem i had was that everywhere i looked, they had the running time wrong. i watch movies on my lunch break at work sometimes, and ten minutes can be dreadful.
other than that, this was a pretty good movie movie, i might recommend it, if pressed. stylized, the ending reminded me of some other movie that id seen recently, cant remember what. but i honestly wasnt expecting it. just flashbacks, and boom, story is resolved.
paul giamatti is such a weird actor. my friend and i made fun of jessica biel the whole time. in a light-hearted, good-spirited way.

I did think this movie was alright, but not spectacular. It’s very predictable, and not anywhere near as good as The Prestige.

A solid 7 out of ten. Not a lot of substance or surprises but looks beautiful, and well acted. Ed Norton & Paul Giamatti are usually good benchmarks of quality.

A great movie that made my head spin! Reminded me of Sixth Sense, for some reason.

I will watch any movie with Edward Norton. I will watch any movie with Paul Giamatti. I love movies set in historical time periods. Vienna is one of my favorite cities. The Illusionist, starring Edward Norton as Eisenheim the illusionist and Paul Giamatti as Inspector Uhl, is set in turn-of-the-century (20th century) Vienna.

The story is told from the point of view of Inspector Uhl and is mostly presented in a series of flashbacks. The cinematography is amazing. It really draws you in with the old-world feel through deep, saturated colors. And my favorite city of Vienna is absolutely gorgeous in this film. For me it is such eye-candy to get to enjoy. Even though it is not a true mystery movie, it plays that way because we are left wondering if the magicians powers are real or just magic. I first heard about this movie while listening to an interview on NPR. It was described as the movie being an illusion about an illusionist. I loved it. I even watched it a second time to listen to the the audio commentary on the DVD which was great. Most of the “illusions” that were performed in the film were not digital. They real illusions were recreated and then filmed. The DVD commentary explained how all of the illusions were created and it is really interesting.

Pretty. Predictable. — 1 year ago

This was a really beautiful-looking movie, and if you’re into magic it’s nice to recognize some classic illusions revamped; unfortunately, that’s about all it has going for it.

It’s predictable to the point where you’re just waiting for the ending that you’ve already figured out. Nothing happens to shake you out of that feeling of “okay, I get it, yawn”.
