Out of all of his books, this reminded me most of Murakami’s film “Audition”... not so much in terms of the pitch of drama, but the sheer creepiness of the violence and the violent character.

Really well written (and translated) meditation on modern Japanese and American cultures, though the persons of an American serial killer and his guide. I must read more by this guy.
