WORTH CONSUMING!

Johnny Depp and chocolate—how can you beat that combination? I loved this film; I can easily envision it catapulting itself to the top of my all-time-favorites list.

The setting, the cinematography, the cast, the script—all as well-thought-out and lovingly carried through as any other fine work of art.

Judi Dench is one of my favorite actors and she did not disappoint as the crusty old landlord Armande. Lena Olin brilliantly captured Josephine, a woman described as “one who goes her own way” by the other villagers after being driven half mad by an abusive husband.

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

I think this is the only thing that I’ve seen Johnny Depp in that I didn’t like, and that includes 21 Jump St.

I can’t help it, but I can’t be doing with these pseudo french films were they greet one another with “Bonjour!” and say “oui, oui monsieur!” every so often but 99% of the time everyone speaks english. It’s just too much like Allo Allo! I also found it trite and self satisfied but then I would say that. And I saw it on two separate really ill fated dates! No film can recover from that.

Fair play to just about everyone else who seems to have enjoyed it though, just ignore that foam around the corners of my mouth.

WORTH CONSUMING!

I love the imagery, the character interplay, the chemistry, and the story of the transition from prejudice to acceptance in a small french village. The Romantic interplay, the bits of humor, and the bits of seriousness wrapped up in a good hearted story makes this another favorite in my DVD collection.
