no wonder it's a classic — 1 year ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

i know this is a classic but i’ve never seen it before. can they drink any more scotch martini’s in this movie? it cracks me up because they are either drinking or hungover.

Nora: “say, how many drinks have you had?”

Nick: “this will be my sixth martini.”

Nora: “all right, bring me five more martini’s, Leo, and line them up right here.”

this movie is funny as hell! for some reason i thought it was going to be a horror movie. but it’s a comedy with a mystery too! my favorite combo. and their dog is priceless. this movie is the perfect combo for a classic. great performances. wonderful wardrobe and settings. dancing, drinking, old phones . . . it’s comforting to watch. i guess there are a couple more in the series because they made sequels. i’ll have to check them out.

WORTH CONSUMING!

Nick and Nora (the heroes of the Thin Man series) drink alcohol with such reckless abandon, and pure joy, that it’s just plain fun. Martini after martini, trays full of drinks, highballs in the middle of the night, another martini on Christmas morning. Talk about conspicuous CONSUMPTION!

Adapted With a Light Touch — 2 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

Based on Dashiell Hammett’s light and airy recounting of Nick and Nora Charles, the film is a bit of tasty froth. First, who could fail to appreciate the snappy exchanges between the married couple, Nick a “retired” dectective and his socialite wife? Although the mystery to be solve never gets down to the nuts-and-bolts of the genre requirements, I found it hard to feel deprived. In its place, we have a nice amusing character types, an endless supply of alcohol, banter in the best sense of the word, and the pure eye candy of the costumes and set.
