This was absolutely terrible. Cinematography is off-kilter throughout in a way that tries to be daring but is annoying instead. The characters are your basic horror stock. The plot is cliche and the twist ending makes no sense at all in context of the rest of the movie. There are entire scenes that are just slow empty space. Not in a “quiet, subtle suspense” kind of way, in a “why is the camera even on” kind of way.

I can only hope the actual game was not this bad.

The plot is somewhat thin, but on par for most horror movies. And I really didn’t miss the story. The visual style carries the movie well. And like most Japanese horror, I didn’t find it very horrifying. But that’s a cultural thing I suppose.
