WORTH CONSUMING!

The photography is eye catching and the actors are just so charismatic that you don’t need anything else. They are wonderfully wonderful!!!
The music is good too. :)

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

This is like watching MTV with bad music and you know, the music on MTV is pretty horrible to start with. If you like corny plots, one dimensional characters, tacky commercials and schmalzy tunes you’re in for a real treat. I reckon it helps if you hate Kurt Cobain. To me, this was like watching a Horror Movie only instead of gruesome deaths you get really awful songs, so you sit there dreading the next abomination to blare out of your speakers and they get more horrible all the time. I reckon the ‘like a Virgin’ bit was supposed to be funny in an American Pie kinda way, but to me it was just dull, predictable and very very boring indeed.

must we rehash bad sex worker stereotypes? — 1 year ago

Moulin Rouge is visually, and generally stylistically lush and gorgeous. The plot is, on the other hand, flat, bland and bought into that hideous ‘quick, kill the whore/ bad grrrl before she has any happiness, or more women will abandon chastity’ stuff that emerges in so many mainstream media/ hollywood trash. Heaven forbid the sex worker survives until the final credits! Grrrrr….

WORTH CONSUMING!

I watched this movie for the second time with friends, remembering it as a really happy movie that would be a good way to start the semester. It’s a really great movie, but not so much on the happiness quotient. Oops.

Based on the opera La Boheme, which Luhrmann was producing at the time he planned this movie. Really beautiful sets and costumes. How many go to Paris hoping to discover something of this exotic place there?

Perfect addition to the romantic musical genre. IT took me back to the musicals of the 40’s and 50’s. Ewen McGreggor and Nicole Kidman were wonderful together. I feel in love with Your Song all over again after he sang it to her.
