Network: "This story is about Howard Beale..." — 1 year ago
Before I saw Network, all I knew was the immortal line, “I’m as mad as hell, and I’m not going to take this anymore!” But let me tell you, people, it is much, much more than that. After seeing Network, I have added yet another mark on the ruler I use to measure screen writing: the dialogue is sharp and crisp, and the story keeps moving through the absurdity while still coming off believable somehow. The film is overflowing with rich performances: William Holden, Peter Finch, Faye Dunaway, Robert Duvall, Beatrice Straight, and Ned Beatty take the remarkable script and imbue it with such power. Network is as relevant today as it was thirty years ago, and it needs to be seen. I want all of you to get up out of your chairs. I want you to get up right now and go to the video rental store, or the Netflix cue, and get a hold of a copy of Network. You’ll thank me.
