This was that big movie that cost so much and supposedly sucked just as much. I never saw it in the theater despite really like Costner’s work upto that point. But upon the recommendations of 2 co-workers, I finally decided to see what it was all about. This was a great movie!!! Not high art or anything, but a really really enjoyable action picture. I can see how they spent so much money, the sets/boats are unreal. The main character’s vessel is just amazing and you can tell its pretty much all real and not CGI, which was really impressive. I thought the storyline and the concept of the whole movie was very interesting. And the young actress who plays the little girl is also grown up and fabulous as ‘Mac’ on ‘Veronica Mars.’ Dennis Hopper makes a great over the top bad guy. This is an action-adventure gem.

Really boring movie. One of those you just hope will end or get good.

we don’t see many movies at the moment, but picked this one up in the bargain bin for a birthday movie night recently. I understand it is a cult classic, etc. I thought so many things about it—Costner was cute and believable, premise was interesting to think about, effects and goodvsevil more than a bit cheesey, and where the heck is the weather? Anyway, worth seeing despite any shortcomings.
