Starbucks is an escapist dream. You can order your coffee, sit inside and listen to muzak or go outside to smoke and people watch. My addiction to it is not really about the coffee. It’s because this is the place where my friends and I bond after a stressful day at work. We get to share our grievances and laugh at amusing anecdotes while drinking our caramel macchiatos or caramel frappuccinos. When my friends and I ask each other if we want to go to Starbucks, it’s really because we want to spend time with each other and just hang out.

Gotta admit I’d been dying to try the Starbucks coffee – there are no Starbucks cafes in Poland yet – so when I went to Edinburgh, I could not miss such an opportunity. I had an espresso doppio and a caramel macchiato at two different places – the former tasted like shit, the latter was much better mainly because the milk and the caramel mousse somewhat killed the taste of coffee in it. I generally don’t like the coffee at chain cafes (Coffee Heaven is acceptable, though), and the American with few exceptions just don’t seem to be able to brew good coffee. What are you guys so excited about? For me, to say the least, it’s strongly overrated.

I’ve been addicted to Starbucks since 7th grade… so a good 6 years so so. A few months ago a friend of mine who works at Starbucks challenged me to an espresso-shot-off aka we’d see who could do the most espresso shots without throwing up or whatever. Need less to say, I won after 20something, but felt so horrible afterwards that I didn’t drink coffee for months. [Un?]Fortunately, I’m back to my habit of going there at least once a day.

This week my partner markout is Sumatra. I love Sumatra. I have a lot of time off this week and will probably drink more than a pound. I think I have some Christmas blend in the kitchen somewhere. I was supposed to pour all of the old gingerbread syrup down the drain but I snuck a couple bottles out. I might sell one on eBay… nah, it’s mine! MINE! Christmas blend and gingerbread, yum!

What can you say about Starbucks coffee? It’s over-priced and pretentious, but it still tastes better than Seattle’s Best. I drink Starbucks coffee because the library only serves this and some watered-down, hideously flavored coffee. It’s not much of a choice really. Somehow Starbucks tastes better when it’s on sale.
