Ashton Kutcher, what to say? He is a wimp, Simon Green, totally undeserving of the foxy black woman, Theresa (Zoe Saldana), he intends to get engaged to. “Beauty and the Geek” redux. Her father, played by Bernie Mac, gets it immediately. Simon is a L-O-S-E-R. He never played any sports. He gets a kick out of trying on Theresa’s lingerie. He’s just quit his job. C’mon, Simon/Ashton. Get a life! But Kutcher is cute. Terminally cute. So you can’t hate this movie, even if it borders on trivial. I only nodded off once, and Bernie Mac was good for a couple of laughs. The tango scene the night before Bernie renews his marriage vows is a hoot. But the “Original Kings of Comedy” or “Mister 3000” it is not. If you can’t borrow this from your local library for free, put off renting it till it hits the discount “favorites” shelves at Blockbuster. It’s fun, but not that much fun.
