A movie made about us! Who’d a thunk?

Ok, really, just about some other people in another time who live in an independent way, and a summer of transition for them. Lovely if slow, wonderful characters and wonderful way the landscape is a character. People who really do live with the land (few and far between) really are changed by it.

Joan Allen is beautiful without make-up and hair-do. In the “making of” section she is made up and looks rather awful. I’m always glad to see people who look real in movies (one reason I like foreign films).

Also, who couldn’t look at Sam Elliot all day. Even if he is psychotic in this flick.

The paintings are really really nice too.

This movie was okay, but it didn’t really stick with me for some reason. Very character-driven, not too fast. Not a ton of plot but also not super boring or predictable. I would recommend it, but only if you like that kind of movie.
