WORTH CONSUMING!

Having read the book about five years back, I had been wanting to watch this movie for a long, long time.

On its own merit, the movie is excellent. I am so accustomed to seeing Whoopi Goldberg playing flashy or hyperactive, the innocence and humility of Celine that Whoopi plays to such perfection is a revelation.

But the movie pales in comparison to its source. I know that its not fair that I except a book to be condensed into a two hour movie and stay true to it, but I can’t help it. This book is one of my favourite books, and I felt that the movie did not carry the essence of what the book was trying to say. A friend of mine with whom I watched the movie suggested that had a female director made the movie, it would have turned out different. I am not sure about that but I do think that the movie is a good story/cinematic treat but the lack of character development and emotional depth is very obvious.

I liked this movie but I wasn’t just blown away by it.

WORTH CONSUMING!

This is the most amazing movie I have seen to this day! They kept it basically right to the book. I am sure there are some things missing but I’d have to be really anal about things to find one thing missing! Not only that but the actors did such a great job at being mean and the actresses pulled at your heartstrings the whole way through! I cried so many times in this movie! Great book, amazing movie!

WORTH CONSUMING!

Hey, I’se married now!!, “All my life I had to fight”, “could be, could not be, who’s to say” Those sayings belong to the above movie. I first saw this movie a couple of weeks after it first came out and believe me when I tell you it was a mixed packed audience that came to it; Twenty plus years later, I am feening to see the Broadway play and have the CD. The book is great, the movie divine and the play is something to love.

Why I want to consume this — 2 years ago

I went to see The Color Purple on Broadway last week. Having never read the book or seen the movie I enjoyed the muscial very much. Because the movie was so well received I’d like to see it now as well.
