I feel that maybe if I hadn’t seen the original that I would have liked this better. The ending was a bit rushed and anticlimactic in comparison.

This loses a really important layer of cultural subtext in the transition from Japanese to American, and it destroys a lot of the unsettling feel of the film.
It just doesn’t translate, and it’s clear that the director also tried to make it more palatable to American audiences with more jump scares, more concrete horror and less psychological creepiness.
The acting was sub-par, which also helped tank it.
Sad.

I thought this was a well done, sad thriller along the lines of a Japanese ghost story. I’m not sure about other comments about a perfect and happy ending, as I felt that it had a very sad ending.

Boring…I was just bored with the story. It was predictable and not as scary as you might think.

Not original. I feel like I’ve seen this story a few times…like it’s based on an old Japanese horror flick or something…but it wasn’t BAD.

it started off very slow!! after about an hour through it I was some what bored! the ending was a little confusing the way it left you feeling like everything was perfect and happy. Scary movies aren’t supposed to end like that. It was mediocre to say the least.
