I love the meticulous methods of the amazing Alfred Hitchcock, but honestly, did Joan Fontaine have only 2 facial expressions in her entire repertoire? Do a Google image search on her name and the movie title – 2 expressions, I swear! Am I the only person in the world who spent much of the movie writhing in pain at her performance?

It’s been ages since I read the book (I really liked it) so I didn’t have any “book vs. movie” issues. The use of lighting was marvellous but some of the scenes were too overacted.

I kept seeing glimpses of Grace Kelly in Joan Fontaine’s face.
