i was a little disappointed in this movie. i thought it was going to be a whole lot funnier. the only part that redeemed this flick was the whole “i know you’re gay because…” thing. hilarious!

WORTH CONSUMING!

Our protagonist works at an electronics place that looks suspiciously Best Buy-ish, getting there on his sole means of transport (a bike) and spends his time away from work making models and collecting action figures (which he maintains unopened in the original packaging). Luckily, he does NOT still live with his mother, but that’s about the only thing he has in his favor in the romance department seemingly.

After a fateful night with ‘the guys’ from work, they learn he’s a virgin and make it their life’s mission to get Andy laid. Despite their advice, Andy is able to stumble onto a nice woman just by being himself and make his way toward the inevitable conclusion. The movie manages to poke fun at dating foibles without doing so in a teensploitation manner.

You’ll definitely want to watch the special features, too. The adlibs are priceless. I’m considering adding this one to my collection.

WORTH CONSUMING!

I thought this was going to be a stupid and immature guy flick. Instead, this movie was hilarious and surprisingly heart warming! Steve Carell stars as Andy, the 40 Year Old Virgin. He works as a stock boy at a Best Buy sort of place, rides a bike instead of a car, has an apartment filled with action figures sealed in their original packaging and thinks the most exciting thing he’s done all weekend is make an egg salad sandwich. It’s really no wonder he’s never gotten laid. One night his coworkers are down a person for their poker game, so they reluctantly invite Andy and subsequently find out he’s a virgin. From that point, his coworkers’ mission is getting Andy laid. They do nothing more than guide him in the right direction, leading him to talk to women instead of shying away from them. To their shock, he’s really pretty good at it!

Andy falls in love with a woman who works across from him as the owner of a “We Sell Your Stuff On eBay” store and starts dating her. He’s nervous about telling her he’s a virgin and she’s just nervous to be in a relationship again, so they agree to no sex for 20 dates! Everything goes very well for both of them, but you know there’s gotta be some conflict, otherwise it would just be a perfect movie. (Personally I don’t see what would be wrong with that, but they tell me without conflict, the movie will flop.)

If you liked Office Space, chances are you’ll like this movie. If you’ve been avoiding this one because it looked too stupid, give it a try! It has more substance than you’d think!

Laughed a lot but kinda bitter, with sympathy. Andy is really a good guy but maybe “strange” to some extent.

WORTH CONSUMING!

I’d heard this was really funny, but I thought that it would be stupid funny. It wasn’t the wittiest thing ever, but it wasn’t just dumb slapstick. I recommend watching it for a good laugh.
