actually, I’ve only seen the movie of part of the book. Excellant though. Love that the little kid is finally put into his first softball game, where he (unrealistically) gets a very big hit. The ball strikes his mother, who dies from it.

I’ve been trying to read this for well over a year. We went on a trip in June and I got further than ever b4. I like it better than b4 but I have yet to finish.

Disappointing ending but a great read none the less.

This might be my favorite Irving book. It’s the first I read and it’s what got me hooked on Irving. If you’ve ever felt like you didn’t belong at church, you’ll identify with the main character. And even if you feel like you belong perfectly at church, it should be interesting for you to read about someone who struggles with organized religion.
I think this is the best book ever written and is quite profound. Edging between laughter and tears at all times, this book was a joy to read! I’ve loaned it to many friends who have in turn bought their own copy and loaned it to others! Brilliant!
