A promising idea – rewrite Biblish stories in a near-future time, while linking them up to original stories. The idea is to show the Bible as a living document, relevant to our continuing struggles, rather than a static set of boring old dry stories that no longer have relevance. Rushkoff just didn’t pull it off. Too many fantastical elements (giant alien-looking robot bugs controlled by the military, gods reaching into the panels and interfering with our lives) really distract from the story and take away its relevance. Also, I understand that sometimes people (and god(desse)s) are naked, and that’s great, but there is a limit – I don’t need to see unclothed bosoms on every page – nudity for the sake of nudity weakens the message.
