I found the story too hard to follow, but I did like how everything came together at the end.

Half way through watching this I said to myself, “This is like watching Traffic with oil/middle east substituted for drugs/latin america.” So I read the back of the DVD jacket and – YUP - same writer. I liked it, all but the torture scene. Big oil is scarey. International politics is scarey. This movie is scarey. And it gives some good insight as to why the USA is so much hated in the middle east.

This movie was hard to watch. You have to pay attention to lot and there were some brutal parts. But if you have the time to really think through the movie, it is amazing. I find it especially interesting due to what is currently going on in the Middle East with Israel and Hezbollah. Part of the movie takes place in Beirut and deals with some issues of US and Iran relationships.

What the hell was going on…blah blah blah. It was not interesting and the characters were never developed. I agree that we all need to examine the oil business more intensely but this movie was just too choppy to make any real statement.

It’s an important subject matter that needs to be discussed in mainstream media. For people who couldn’t follow it, did you try watching it again? I’ve heard from many people who watched it that they didn’t “get it” until the second or third viewing. It’s well worth it and should get you thinking. If it doesn’t… well, I feel sorry for you (and me and this country).

I couldn’t figure out what was going on here, but also none of the characters in the movie was compelling enough to make me want to figure out what was going on here. Bah.

I might like it more if someone explained it to me… Perhaps I need to read the book on which it was based.

First of all I need to gripe about Netflix. Their movies come in a little envelope/holder that has a synopsis of the movie on it. Why on earth was it so important to let me know that George Clooney gained 30 lbs for this part when they couldn’t even get the name of his character right? They said he plays Bob Baer. In truth, he plays Bob Barnes (who dies). The author of the book that the movie was based on was Robert Baer (who lives).
I labled the movie worth consuming because I thought it was a good subject matter, well acted, and had a great score. But I agree with others, that it was hard to follow. I couldn’t remember which characters were which… The names were never clear. I still don’t know who Matt Damon was playing… But overall, I thought it was worth it, and it made me want to read Baer’s books. I think having read them, I’d probably enjoy the movie more. I did NOT watch the torture scene, though…
It was OK i guess…I just have no idea what the hell was going on. Next time give me a coherent plot. You made all this crap up. It’s not like I can look it up in a history book.
