WORTH CONSUMING!

This was a great movie, although Mr Darcy was creepy, Snape-like (yes, like proffessor Snape…) and disheveled. Also, there was a superflous scene in there where Lizzie was standing on a cliff and thinking, her dress billowing in the wind. It was pretty, but more like something Charlotte Bronte would write than Jane Austen.

I saw it yesterday, and it was OK. It had some really good things about it, definitely. But I think the last version of it (BBC I think) was so much better, giving the characters and story more depth. And I didn`t like the fact that I found this verion a bit over-explaining at some points. But still, it was entertaining, I had a nice time watching it.

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

Would I recommend seeing this movie in the theater? No, I wouldn’t. Would I recommend renting this on a rainy or snowy night? Maybe. To be honest it seemed more like a movie you’d see on cable. Specifically Lifetime or WE. Had this been a made for TV movie, I would have given it a ‘worth it’.

The A&E version of this story is much better.

WORTH CONSUMING!

Brilliant adaptation! For once we see how seriously the difference in social class shapes the character and behavior of all of the characters and how Mr. Darcy in particular struggles with protecting his peers and doing what is expected of him instead of reaching for what he desires.

When Matthew MacFadyen delivers the line, “You have bewitched me; body and soul” I very nearly wept. What would it be like to love like that? What would it be like to be loved like that?
