When I found this book in the library, I was so excited. The third book of the City of Ember series had come out!

Sadly, when I took it home to read, I found it very disappointing. I had expected the next book in the series; perhaps the characters had moved on?

Instead, I found a some-what prequel. After some immense thinking, I realized that the author wanted to write a different style, but because of the publicity of the City of Ember series, Jeanne wanted to capture some of those same readers, like me.

If you want a different style, this book is most certainly an excellent read. But for people who’d rather read different books by different authors for different styles (oh, my), then this might not be the best book for you.
