WORTH CONSUMING!

Greenfield’s book raises some interesting ethical issues about the development and use of pervasive and ubiquitous technologies including RFID tags and mobile devices.

Some of what he presents are obvious: trading privacy for convenience, for example. Or technology that does things we’re perfectly capable of doing for ourselves, like making coffee.

Other issues are geared more towards industrial designers and engineers. For example, how do we design systems that are easy to use, not overly invasive, and respect our individual space and dignity?

It’s a thought-provoking read, particularly if you’re an engineer, developer, or designer responsible for creating “everyware.”

Love the concept. There are important ideas in there, and I’m a fan of Adamns V-2 but this isn’t grabbing me.

Maybe it isn’t morning bus material.
