TV’s introduction to Dr Tony Hill (Robson Green), as he’s called in to help the police to solve a serial killer’s brutal murders.
I’ve read the books, but the TV series hits a more perfect note, somehow, taking the original and adding simplicity and visuals – although it’s far less grusome that the text.
Robson Green struck me at first as an odd choice – isn’t he the pretty boy, housewife’s choice of drool-over from Soldier, Soldier, warbling Unchained Melody to the top spot?
But perhaps that’s what worked for him here: he’s not unattractive, which helps the totally weird, socially inept oddball psychologist character work without alienating the audience. Definitely a good fit!
