Why I recommend "Charlatan: America's Most Dangerous Huckster, the Man Who Pursued Him, and the Age of Flimflam" — 6 weeks ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

This is, without exaggeration, one of the most incredible books I have ever read. I never thought I’d be unable to put down a book about goat testicles, but Brock is such an amazing storyteller with a wicked sense of humor and a beautiful style. I absolutely loved this book and hope everyone reads it.

Why it's taking me forever to finish consuming "Ablaze!: The Mysterious Fires of Spontaneous Human Combustion" — 1 year ago

Tiny print, quarter inch margins, hundreds of examples that don’t seem to be driving to a point. So far a disappointment.

A story about "Cause of Death: Forensic Files of a Medical Examiner" — 1 year ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

I really liked this book, for all of the information, but it wasn’t the most exciting read at points because the editing is so bad. Typos abound, and it’s very repetitive. I get what the entrail bag is for. You don’t have to describe it every time you mention it, every chapter. 7/10.

WORTH CONSUMING!

I just can’t believe this exists. And that it didn’t suck.

My all consuming summary of July, 2006 — 1 year ago

July was hectic for me, with more hours at work, and 6 days with Ian. I did get plenty of Lolita read on that train, though. Visited the library more and added two more classics to my completed list. I also bought a lot of books which may show up on this list someday. The Casebook will be the first finished.

How "Peels" changed my life — 1 year ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

Peels Bluberry Pomegranate made me stop being Straight Edge. I think that says all you need to know.

Picks up near the end — 2 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

I liked it. It was hard to get through at the beginning, but I think there’s a good reason: I’m 20. My best friend put it best when she said “I would have loved it if I was 13.” I would have idolized Holden and his independence and his flying by the seat of his pants. But I didn’t. It was a good read, though. I just would have loved to see an adjective other than “crumby,” “phony,” or the occaisonal “vomity.” But once it got to the point where the title is explained, it really picked up. There’s some deep stuff hidden in there. Not a life-changer, but I was glad to have read it.

Not as good as Sound Loaded — 2 years ago

I got the CD because I was addicted to watching the videos and live performances for it on AOLMusic, but the rest of the CD itself is slightly above forgettable. On Ricky’s other CDs, every song stood out. So far, they just seem to blend together on this one, though I absolutely love “I Don’t Care.”

My all consuming summary of June, 2006 — 2 years ago

June was really the peak of my intention to consume. I tore through books and started trying all different kinds of literature – self-help, classics, biographies. I wanted to read 12 books this year. I did almost half of that this month.

A story about "A Confederacy of Dunces" — 2 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

I am madly in love with this book. I would have likely consumed it all in a few days but a friend and I are reading it at the same time and I need to pace myself for her sake. I just finished chapter 7 – oh my God. When you read about Ignatius and his hot dogs, you’ll be rolling. I can’t remember the last time I laughed out loud so hard at a book. That chapter put me in a good mood all day.
