...one can hear Johnny Cash prepare for his death in this album. In a strange way, it makes me quite okay with dying. It’s vintage Cash, with train and prisoner metaphors throughout nearly every song. One review warned that his powerful voice had lost something, but I hear something different, a rich, textured voice that is marked with every wrinkle of every year, and which tells the story of the song much better than the lyrics. This is a keeper…one of the best albums I’ve heard in years.
