Why I want to consume "Vegan Lunch Box" — 1 year ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

I, along with just about everyone in the online vegan community, followed Jennifer’s blog veganlunchbox.blogspot.com religiously. I think there’s a line wrapped around the earth of “kids” waiting to be adopted by her. In this book, Jennifer shares her secrets for putting together all those fabulous lunches her lucky son takes to school. I’m about halfway through and have found a few things I’d like to try for myself. I probably won’t pack my lunches like this often because I rely on dinner leftovers, but if I ever have a kid, I am going to wear this thing out.

The book is available on amazon.com even though it isn’t coming up in the search quite yet.

a remake of a made for tv movie — 1 year ago

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

this is what happens when i’m home for thanksgiving. my mom puts things like matlock and this on the tv. it’s okay. it’s only a few days a year. i can deal. what makes this one kind of funny is that i looked it up on imdb and found out it’s a remake of a 70s tv movie. anyway, i don’t even recommend this as an “i’m laying on the couch sick and want something sappy to watch on lifetime” sort of movie.

not the best romance movie, but tolerable — 1 year ago

i’d probably sit through anything with john cusack in it and he was enjoyable in this. i wouldn’t say the movie itself is worth going out of your way for, but not a bad thing to have around on a rainy afternoon. rates higher than your average lifetime movie, that’s for sure!

but i don't feel like i know her — 2 years ago

i was sort of hoping the movie would fill in the gaps in the biography. i just didn’t feel the whole “i’m getting back to jesus” thing was adequately explained to me. i guess i still don’t completely get it. maybe i’m just dense about the whole christian sin thing. it was beautiful, but felt slow at times and not in a character building sort of way.

time capsule — 2 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

It’s like a time capsule of my teen years. Great 80’s snapshot. Like the soundtrack better than I ever liked the movie.

why does it remind me of steely dan? — 2 years ago

I don’t know why but as a whole this album reminds me of Steely Dan. In this case, not a good thing. That said, I really love the track Dying Slowly.

absolutely worth it if only for the extended version of Killing Moon.

overdone — 2 years ago

made for people who really need to have a point beat into them, you know, until they’re bloody and losing consciousness. i guess it’s what you have to do to reach most people these days, but really i’d prefer something a bit more subtle. not a complete waste of time but i’m glad i rented as a netflix. imo, not worth shelling out $8+ to see.

A review of "The Simple Little Vegan Slow Cooker" — 2 years ago

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

the recipes in here don’t inspire me at all. some seem downright wrong. for example, one has you slow cook snow peas in a dish for 6-8 hours. those are going to end up being mush. a lot of the recipes also appear to be things that don’t benefit from slow cooking and would do just as well in 20-30 minutes on the stove top.

A review of "Fresh from the Vegetarian Slow Cooker: 200 Recipes for Healthy and Hearty One-Pot Meals that Are Ready When You are" — 2 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

so far i’ve tried the perfect hominy white bean chili, kamut with root vegetables and cranberries and barbecued seitan and layered vegetables. all came out well, especially the kamut. i’ve not had luck getting kamut to come out right in the pressure cooker but this worked perfectly. one thing i need to do is get a timer that’ll allow it to start cooking an hour or so after i leave. i’m generally gone from the house longer than the max cooking time. even so, the dishes still worked. while the book says it’s vegetarian, but instead of the standard vegetarian recipes with vegan options, most if not all recipes are vegan with occasional vegetarian options.
