I just started reading this. I was a kid when this series was written but some of it is familiar, the reference Safeway as a center of social activity, for example. It was written as a serial novel in a San Francisco newspaper in the mid 70s. Most of the themes are about the sociocultural changes of that era. Lot of sexual references, very entertaining.

I’m actually from Midland, Texas and believe it or not was a senior at Midland High in 1989, the year in which this film is set. All of west Texas is consumed with highschool football. A great sports story and totally true.

I went to school with Vince Vieluf in the late 80s. He is from Portland, Texas, not Chicago. He has been making this same gesture since high school.
