A story about "The Life of the Cosmos" — 5 years ago

A Christmas present to me, though Jean’s currently reading it, since my pile is so high. I look forward to it.

A story about "On Basilisk Station (Honor Harrington (Paperback))" — 5 years ago

I got this book from the library to decide whether to purchase the latest David Weber book “War of Honor”, since it comes with a CD-ROM with twenty-some novels from Baen Books in it.

I did Lois McMaster Bujold, and Weber’s stories are somewhat in the same vein, though I can’t vouch for the ongoing quality. Having read most of the Vorkosigan books by Bujold, I’m prejudiced that she is the better writer, but ‘On Basilisk Station’ is after all Weber’s first book.

Short version: I bought the book with the CD-ROM.

A story about "War of Honor (Honor Harrington Series, Book 10)" — 5 years ago

I doubt I’ll get to this for years, as I’m going to be working my way through the first nine novels in the series that come on the included CD-ROM.

I’ve finished ‘On Basilisk Station’ via a library book, and I’m now working on ‘The Honor of the Queen’ on my Palm Pilot.

A story about "Thief of Time" — 5 years ago

I wish I could just subscribe to Terry Pratchett, so I could be sure never to miss one of his books!

A story about "In Praise of Apples: A Harvest of History, Horticulture & Recipes" — 5 years ago

Subtitled ‘A Harvest of History, Horticulture & Recipes’ it’s a little light on the history, the horticulture is maybe a third of the book (and answered my questions about how apples are propagated) and the recipes dominate. Since I don’t intend to be an apple chef, the book is weak for my interests, and I’ll probably take it back to the library this weekend.

A story about "Blundering into Diaster" — 5 years ago

“The Gift of Time” contains an interview with Robert Mcnamara, and he makes reference to mistakes made during the Cuban Missile Crisis which could have led to nuclear war and which were only discovered in retrospect. “So it seems we need to be not just wise, but lucky.”

I’m hoping this book will discuss what he was talking about in that interview…

A story about "Down and Out in the Magic Kingdom" — 5 years ago

I’m currently reading the e-book on my Palm Pilot. If it’s good, I’ll find some way to send the author money, since I’d hate to buy the book after reading it just to show it’s worth it…

A story about "Toast: And Other Rusted Futures" — 5 years ago

Toast turned out not to be my cup of tea. The author’s sense of humor is too cutesy, and abounds throughout the book. I read the first few stories, bailed on the title story midway through, and read two more before deciding it wasn’t going to get any better.

A story about "The Honor of the Queen (Honor Harrington (Paperback))" — 5 years ago

On my Palm Pilot. It came on a CD with David Weber’s latest Honor Harrington book. I read On Basilisk Station to decide if I should buy the book with the complete series on CD-ROM, and I did…
