Well written in a Faulkner-prose style and a definate
page turner. I enjoy post-fallen world stuff usually
but this was just grim through and through.
There were no apostrophes in the contractions
and for some reason that drove me nuts.
...and there were a lot of contractions.

mellow contemporary jazz.
Botti is a horn maestro.
Play this for your lady,
she’ll thank you in pleasant
ways.
Or, listen to it in traffic.
We can all use a little slow
down…

I enjoyed the concept of YGBM
(you’ve gotta believe me) the
use of semantic control by remote
triggering: is this not happening
already and has been for that matter
to a lesser degree?
Look around you with care.
Do you really need an SUV when
gas prices soar and a fuel-efficient
minivan would suffice?
The novel makes you think about what’s
going on behind what’s going on.

Marusek started this as a vignette; it reads thus. The vignette part (beginning) is abso brilliant. The story mires later, but this book was the second-best SF book I’ve read so far this year. Vernor Vinge’s Rainbow’s End being the first.
