A story about "Garden State: A Novel" — 3 years ago

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

I tried very, very hard to like this novel, but in the end, I couldn’t. The author tried so hard to portray the realism of apathy that he forgot to create interesting characters. I just couldn’t force myself to care about any of them.

A story about "Eats, Shoots & Leaves: The Zero Tolerance Approach to Punctuation" — 4 years ago

I never thought I could laugh at a book about punctuation, but this book proved to me that I could. I haven’t been able to stop thinking about commas since I finished it.

A story about "Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West" — 4 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

This is one of the most brilliant books I’ve ever had the pleasure of reading. I was so captivated that I read the entire book in one afternoon, and then three more times in the next two weeks. The characters are so well-written that I kept having to remind myself that they’re not real.

A story about "Foucault's Pendulum" — 4 years ago

What I’ve read of this book so far has been good, but continuing to read it is such a task. Right now I’m averaging about ten pages per week—at this rate, I’ll never finish.

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

It’s mindless fluff, but it passes the time.

A story about "Life of Pi" — 4 years ago

I bought this book because of the all the positive feedback from friends and other sources. Three-quarters of the way through, I still didn’t quite understand what was so marvelous about it, but as I read the last several pages, I got it. I don’t think this book quite lives up to its hype, but it’s still better than most others.

A story about "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass" — 4 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

This is my favourite book and has been since I was a little girl. One can never be too old for Alice.

A story about "Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister: A Novel" — 4 years ago

This book wasn’t nearly as good as I expected it to be after reading “Wicked,” by the same author. I hate to compare the two works, but “Wicked” went into so much depth and made you believe that the characters were actually real historical figures, whereas the characters in “Confessions…” still read like fairy tales. The story was fairly interesting, but I would have appreciated some more layers.

A story about "The Da Vinci Code" — 3 years ago

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

The plot moves quickly and the subject matter is interesting, but the writing is poor and the facts are completely inaccurate. Dan Brown takes wild speculation and presents it as undisputed fact. Now, due to the book’s popularity, there are entirely too many people walking around thinking they know some great secret without having bothered to do any research first. This is NOT a historical novel!

A story about "Bloodsucking Fiends: A Love Story" — 3 years ago

Eh. It was a little silly and trite. Not up to the standard I expect from Christopher Moore.
