A story about "Across the Universe (Two-Disc Special Edition)" — 24 weeks ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

When I watched this movie I went into it thinking of it as a piece of art. I thought it was very interesting how they applied some of The Beatles songs in the story, especially Happiness Is A Warm Gun in the hospital ward. I don’t think this movie is for everyone. People who would see it just because they are a Beatles fan or like musicals may be disappointed. This film is artsy and thought provoking so people who only like big mainstream films may not like this. However, if you are open-minded, I think you should check this out because it is interesting. And you’ll know most of the songs!

A story about "Peter's Friends" — 29 weeks ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

I really liked this movie. I stumbled upon it one of those nights when you want to watch a movie on one of your many cable channels but only a few are starting at that particular time . . .

Peter’s Friends is like a British version of The Big Chill. Maybe it’s because I’m a thirty-something. Maybe it’s because of the all-star cast including Hugh Laurie, Emma Thompson, Kenneth Branaugh, etc. But I love stories about old friends getting together after a while and discussing their real-life problems.

A story about "Apocalypto" — 29 weeks ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

I was not sure what to expect from Apocalypto. I found it “On Demand” through my cable service. I remember when it was talked about in 2006 but I had no interest in seeing it at that time. I am really glad I watched it today.

I can not recommend this film to most people. First of all, it is sub-titled and many people I know will not sit through a sub-titled movie. However this is an action film and a lot goes on where there is no dialog. But for people who like film as an art form, I strongly recommend adding this to your list of must see films.

A new part of history is covered – the Mayan civilization. There is some controversy as to how historically accurate this film is, but I believe it gives you a good sense to how people lived during that time.

WORTH CONSUMING!

Wow! EXCELLENT movie. One of the best movies I have seen in a long time. Even though this is a drama, I felt as if I was on a roller coaster. The emotions from the plot and sub-plots ebb and flow like rapids. All of the characters have done things that I do not want to like them for, but it is because of those imperfect traits that I can relate to them. I usually can’t stand watching movies that have anything to do with affairs, but this one I couldn’t help get drawn into.

Rita Hayworth and Gene Kelly, what more do you need to know? Gorgeous costumes. Amazing dancing. There is routine Gene Kelly does with his “alter ego” that shows how flawless he can be.

A story about "Saturday Night And Sunday Morning" — 30 weeks ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

I had no idea what to expect from this movie. It was on TCM and I’ve been on an old movie kick lately. The description was “A factory worker lives for the chance to have fun on the weekends.” Seemed interesting to me and it was rated 4 stars so I recorded it and then watched it late at night.

Even though it was filmed in the early 60s, this film reminded me of a modern indie movie. It takes place in the UK and everyone has accents – I’m not used to this while watching most old movies on TCM. The performances by all of the actors were excellent. The movie had a combination of serious and every day subject matter. Albert Finney was HOT!

A story about "16 Blocks (Widescreen Edition)" — 31 weeks ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

I put off watching this movie for a long time. Tonight my mother and I decided to sit down and watch a movie. This was first in the list of OnDemand movies so I picked it. We both enjoyed it. There was some good action, a little suspense, a twist here and there, and over all left us smiling. Definitely what I’d call a quality rental!

WORTH CONSUMING!

I just happened to catch this movie on TCM. I know understand how so many people were captivated with Katherine Hepburn. I have seen many movies which she is well known for but this is just the first one I stumbled upon. It is delightful! She really is magic on film.

This is a great movie! It has some drama going on and is funny in places. About friendship and starting out in life. Definitely leaves you feeling positive. Makes me want to get on a plane and travel . . .

A story about "Deck the Halls" — 31 weeks ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

This year’s corny Christmas movie . . . I know Deck the Halls came out in 2006 but I didn’t watch it until it came on cable in 2007. From what I’ve seen it only got 1 star – ouch! I enjoyed it. It mad me smile a few times, laugh a few more and gave me goose bumps at the end. What more can one ask for?
