Why I want to consume "Transatlanticism" — 2 years ago

I sought this out because I recently saw Death Cab for Cutie in Berkeley (mp3.com review). The show was my first introduction to their music and I was quite underwhelmed. There was no energy and the songs just droned on with no build up or climax. The only song I really liked was the title track to this album, “Transatlanticism,” I found out later. On my first listen, nothing really grabbed me about this album, but I’ll give it another chance or two.

A review of "John Paul the Great: Remembering a Spiritual Father" — 2 years ago

This book seems to be less about Pope John Paul II than about Peggy Noonan’s personal life as a Catholic with regard to Pope John Paul II. Some of the personal things were touching but over all I thought they were mostly tangential to the story of the man. It was a fairly quick read, though.

Why I recommend "Neutral Milk Hotel's In the Aeroplane Over the Sea (33 1/3) (33 1/3)" — 2 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

It just makes you feel really wonderful inside when you can read a book about a band or an album where the author thinks and observes the very same things I have only thought inside my own head. This book tells a great story behind an even greater album.

Why I recommend "The Giver" — 2 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

I read an article in Reason about some trends in Young Adult literature and had to check out this book. I’m a sucker for anti-government themes and this book presents one that even kids can appreciate I think. It’s almost like a 1984 for younger kids. A very disturbing story. I loved it.

A story about "Neuromancer" — 2 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

I just finished Neuromancer for the first time and I’m not sure I get it. The story seemed pretty good. It kept me engaged. I’m just not sure if I am supposed to understand all the details about what he is talking about. It was really out there. I couldn’t conceptualize it all.
