A story about "Stitch 'N Bitch: A Knitter's Design Journal" — 1 year ago

Not much to consume :) But it has quite the abundance of cute, little pages.

WORTH CONSUMING!

Great book. Burgess’ vocabulary is amazing, and I think it would be nice if each copy of this book had a companion Burgess dictionary :)

The book got slightly confusing there at the end, and there were moments that I wished I had a Professor to discuss the book with… damn being a college graduate.

A story about "The Four Agreements: A Practical Guide to Personal Freedom, A Toltec Wisdom Book" — 2 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

Very educational. I knew nothing about the Toltec beliefs prior to reading this. Intriguing. An inspirational and beautiful way of viewing our beautiful world :) This book is a guide to truly living.

Chapter 7 was specifically moving for me, I wanted to underline the entire chapter.

“I WANT YOU TO FORGET EVERYTHING YOU HAVE EVER LEARNED IN YOUR WHOLE LIFE” .... read it. It is short, and so is life.

A story about "The Handmaid's Tale: A Novel" — 2 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

If you like utopia/dystopia books read it. It wasn’t incredible, but it was interesting. I feel incomplete though. The book didn’t wrap us as much as I’d of liked. Also, the epilogue was abrupt and confusing. Atwood did not transition into it at all. It completely rearranged the text. I wish there was more, simply because I found myself attached to the main character and her loved ones. Atwood comes up with some pretty intriguing ideas. Silly, crazy christian folk.

Why I gave up consuming "The Unbearable Lightness of Being: Twentieth Anniversary Edition" — 2 years ago

Milan Kundera writes wonderfully realistically. I might finish this book, eventually. I have about 30 pages left in it. The infidelity in the book caused me to stop reading it. The characters just upset me too much. Why would you sleep next to a man you love who comes home and his hair smells of other women every night? It just killed me. Really.

Predictable — 2 years ago

The book was enjoyable, I read it quite quickly. It doesn’t really compare to “The Giver”, though. Matt and his dog, Branch, were very easy to like as characters. Parts of the book seemed a little too juvenile (obviously the main audience is fairly young adults), but I reccomend it. You could basically tell what was going to happen in the book. I knew the ending not many chapters into the beginning. Nonetheless, because of my loyalty to Jonas and “The Giver”, I will be reading “The Messenger” as soon as I can :)

A review of "Letting Go of the Person You Used to Be : Lessons on Change, Loss, and Spiritual Transformation" — 2 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

Lama Surya Das’ text is a bit too full of Chicken Soup for the Buddhists Soul type anecdotes…. however, having come out of and reflecting on the text, I consider it a highly beneficial read for those seeking help in the process of awakening and meditating. I do feel, though, that one could chop up the text, make it a third the size, save some trees, some time, and recieve the same impact. I feel as though I know all the worlds pain, trifles, and fears. It is a bit exhausting, but in the end, worth it. I feel great appreciation for having finished the book. It has, indeed, changed my life.

Innovative Truth — 2 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

The story begins slow, and allots one no real desire to move forward in it, but move forward. When it begins its transition, what becomes of Plath’s story is overwhelmingly beautifully written, moving, and startling. Her analogies, as the narratives title reveals, are imaginitive and accurate. Her innovative, yet detailed writing makes it apparent that Plath was writing what Plath had not just been imagining, but had been a part of- had been feeling and experiencing. If you found yourself touched by Chopin’s “The Awakening”, and the enlightening way inwhich Edna begins to see the role of women, read this book. If you are intrigued by psychology and womens studies, read this book. If you love to read, and wish to not miss out, read this book.
- Sylvia Plath

I saw my life branching out before me like the green fig tree in the story. From the tip of every branch, like a fat purple fig, a wonderful future beckoned and winked. One fig was a husband and a happy home and children, and another fig was a famous poet and another fig was a brilliant professor, and another fig was Ee Gee, the amazing editor, and another fig was Constantin and Socrates and Attila and a pack of other lovers with queer names and offbeat professions, and another fig was an Olympic lady crew champion, and beyond and above these figs were many more figs I couldn't quite make out. I saw myself sitting in the crotch of this fig tree, starving to death, just because I couldn't make up my mind which of the figs I would choose. I wanted each and every one of them, but choosing one meant losing all the rest, and, as I sat there, unable to decide, the figs began to wrinkle and go black, and, one by one, they plopped to the ground at my feet.
