A story about "In Youth Is Pleasure" — 11 weeks ago
Exquisite.
I'm currently reading 12 books, listening to 12 albums, watching 1 movie, eating and drinking 0 food items, and consuming 0 other things.
Haunting music, great performances from a largely amateur cast.
This recipe I give to thee,
Dear brother in the heat.
Take two of sour (lime let it be)
To one and a half of sweet,
Of Old Jamaica pour three strong,
And add four parts of weak.
Then mix and drink. I do no wrong —
I know whereof I speak.
A great film, intense, grim. If you enjoy it, I recommend renting the documentary Herzog made of the real man this film was based on-Little Dieter Needs to Fly….all the more amazing when you know the real story.
I didn’t enjoy this as much as Pastoralia or CivilWarLand…-it felt too dismal and kind of made me long for the world’s demise.
Smacked-Asses….with a twist. I cannot recommend this.
It’s official. I am a total sucker for Astaire/Rogers flicks. I always thought Ginger Rogers was the ginchiest, but now Astaire has also won my heart. Must see more!
Re-watched Little Dieter… to gear up for seeing Rescue Dawn. What a harrowing story, told so lightly, for the most part. How shocking to watch this man tied up once again and hurried through the dense jungles. Amazing soundtrack.
