I liked Frances McDormand’s performance in this movie but otherwise was underwhelmed. It was boring and I didn’t get how Jennifer Aniston’s character was supposed to be a contemporary of Joan Cusak, McDormand and Catherine Keener.
The second season was great—I watched the whole thing in about 3 days, treating myself to lots of weird dreams in the process. I was kind of bummed by how Keith became such an unsympathetic character, but oh well.
This movie had some potential (I liked the road trip part at the end), but it ended up feeling silly and incoherent. Orlando Bloom’s Americant accent was laughable and the whole sneaker thing seemed unnecessary.
As usual, I’m late to the party. Of course everyone has been yammering for years about how great Six Feet Under is, but I didn’t get around to watching it til now. Now that all the seasons are out on DVD, and now that I work at a video store, I can pretty much run through all six years (I think it’s six anyway) in about a month if I want.
At any rate, I loved the first season and can’t wait to see what happens later. My favorite character is Keith the cop.
I liked this a lot, very compelling protagonist. However, it was a little annoying that a lot of the dialogue was in Spanish with no subtitles. Sometimes no subtitles are needed in movies like this—the language is there for effect and you can pretty much guess what they’re saying by the tone and expression, but there were long stretches where there was no English at all, which hurt the film overall I think. Luckily for me, those 4 years of high school Spanish, paired with 2 years living in Upper Manhattan, were enough enough for me to be able to pick up most of what they were saying. My girlfriend, however, fell asleep.
I actually didn’t make it all the way through this, but as predicted, I did find it fairly tedious. I liked Cate Blanchette’s vignette and the one with Iggy Pop and Tom Waits, but overall I wasn’t all that enterained.
I was surprised by how much I liked Macauley Culkin in this movie. Mandy Moore was pretty good too. A little cutesy, overall, but that wasn’t exactly unexpected. I’d watch it again.
This isn’t my favorite Woody Allen movie, but it was alright. Melinda herself was irritating, but I liked the frame of the story. It wasn’t as bad as Celebrity, definitely my least favorite Woody film.
If you like Tracey Ullman’s HBO series Tracey Takes On, you’ll enjoy this live show. She revisits some of her old characters and tells some of the events of her life through skits and musical numbers. The first 15 minutes or so are a little embarassing, as she’s impersonating herself as a young child and does this horrible routine where she lisps and sings a stupid song, but other than that it’s great.
I liked this movie because it’s a rare film that allows lesbians to end up happily together, without one of them turning out straight or dead of some horrible illness. It’s very lighthearted and sweet, and it all works out okay in the end. We all need a bit of that now and then!
