    WORTH CONSUMING!

edna st. vincent millay is one of my favorite poets. her writing just reminds me of an era where women were graceful and darling. think the 1920’s. i had read these plays before and found them extremely witty and funny. in re-reading them they had lost none of their charm.

    WORTH CONSUMING!

i rented this the same time as michael clayton, and kept putting it off. i was disappointed in clayton, and for some reason i had this movie pegged as a subtitled, mexican drama, and just wasn’t in the mood to watch it. boy, was i wrong. yes, there are mexicans, but nowhere to be found is the subtitles. a gritty, drug cartel type movie with the west as a backdrop. as a character the landscape set the mood. desolate, wide, harsh, sparse. i loved jarvier bardem’s character. he was methodical in his madness. i could listen to him speak for hours. he sends shivers down my spine. the only thing i wasn’t too fond of was the end. it kind of ended abruptly for my taste. looking back, the conversation w/his wife about his dream of his father and how he would always be there when he caught up could be replaced w/bardem’s character. i just wanted the story to go on more, i wasn’t ready for it to end.

what a perfect summer beach book — 30 weeks ago

    WORTH CONSUMING!

shahira dropped this into my bag thinking it was laura’s. i had adamantly told laura i didn’t want to read this book. it just didn’t sound interesting to me. what a gem. this is the typical summer beach book. the chapters are short, at most 5 pages, the pace is quick, characters like-able, and you just can’t seem to put it down. i found myself thinking, “just one more chapter”, many, many times. when the juror bus blew-up i found myself gasping and calling laura to find out if they all died. i was sure that andie did not because there was some foreshadowing of her and pellisante ending up together; which they did. patterson does his research, which is refreshing. some similarities to the sopranos and to john gotti which i was proud i recognized. i wasn’t particularly happy about the ending, but it was easily overlooked. i even looked online at real estate in haifa, israel.

    WORTH CONSUMING!

in jerusalem’s lot i thought it was cool how as the reader, you could see the slow descent into madness. my favorite story by far was the one where all the army people came to life and battled. how clever. king’s imagination is wonderful, and i love that it may help other people feel more “normal” if their imaginations tend to go towards the macabre.

bet you'll be wary when exiting an elevator from now on — 32 weeks ago

    WORTH CONSUMING!

laura likes full screen so i full-screened it up. what a great flick! i’m partial to boston movies, being from around there and this one did not let me down. all-star cast. gritty, lots of death-by-gunshots, blood, betrayal, and a good-looking chick. wahlberg’s character was wonderful. i love a good banter session amongst loved ones.
