How to Spend the Perfect Day in Puerto Vallarta

If you’ve got just one full day in Puerto Vallarta, you can still get a pretty solid taste of what makes this place so addictive.
PV is one of those cities where you can stroll, eat, wander into something unexpected, and somehow end up having a better day than the one you planned.
Here’s a laid-back way to enjoy the day without rushing or overthinking it but still getting a full feeling for what this city is all about.
Morning in Zona Romántica
Start your morning in the Zona Romántica, ideally with breakfast somewhere simple and reliable. Good coffee, big plates, and a mix of locals and sleepy tourists easing into the day. Don’t worry, there are plenty of cafes and restaurants to choose from in the area.
After breakfast, take a slow walk down Basilio Badillo and let yourself get distracted; galleries, cafés, and little shops tend to pull you in even when you’re not trying to buy anything.
Walk Toward the Water
Midday Break on Isla Cuale
By midday, the sun starts doing its thing, so wander over to Isla Cuale for a break.
The hanging bridges, the shaded paths, the little artisan market… it’s simple but really nice. It feels like stepping out of the city without actually leaving it.
This is also an ideal moment for lunch, and the island is home to Oscars Puerto Vallarta, which sits right along the river. It’s calm, breezy, and a great spot to regroup before continuing on.
Afternoon Exploring El Centro
In the afternoon, head toward El Centro. If you don’t mind a short uphill walk, climb up to the viewpoint near the lighthouse — the bay views are worth it.
If you’re staying on flat ground, explore the streets surrounding the Church of Our Lady of Guadalupe. There’s always something happening: music, vendors, or just everyday local life unfolding around you. Grab an iced drink, find some shade, and let yourself wander.
Sunset Along the Beach
As the day starts to wind down, make your way back to the beach. Puerto Vallarta sunsets always deliver, even if you’ve seen a hundred of them.
Los Muertos Beach is a great spot to catch sunset. It’s very lively, but if you want something more relaxed, Playa Camarones is just a short walk north and tends to be quieter. The colors over the bay are one of those things you don’t forget.
Dinner and a Slow Night Stroll
For dinner, pick a spot based on your mood. This might just be the perfect time to try some delicious tacos. If tacos sound good, Pancho’s Takos or Tacos Revolución are easy wins.
For something more special, there are plenty of rooftops and hidden dining rooms tucked into Zona Romántica.
End the night with a drink of mezcal at Mezcla & Sal. You won’t regret it!
