Most people would like to think that at some point in their lives, they can purchase and then live in their dream house. But as far as dream houses go, they don’t just take care of themselves once you’re in them. No – you have to perform long-term maintenance! If not, your dream house is not going to last very long in that ideal state. So it’s better to be safe than sorry by working through preventative maintenance whenever possible.

There are several different ways that you can do this. First of all, you should always make sure that your home has a stable foundation. You can create all sorts of beautiful things on top of it, but when the structure crumbles, you’re in trouble. Second, you should create a clear landscaping plan. Setting up gardens, trees, bushes, and other landscaping is not an immediate process. 

You have to think about how all of these things will grow and change over time. Third, make sure you obsessively maintain your wet areas. This means paying particular attention to your shower, your kitchen, and your laundry room. If you don’t regularly maintain an area that can grow mold, rest assured that will be a problem later on.

Stabilize the Foundation

If you plan on having a dream house for a long time, it has to be on a solid foundation. And the foundation is made of two primary things. First of all, there is the structure of the concrete and steel that form the base. And secondly, there is the solidity of the soil around that foundation.

If you know that you need soil stabilization around your dream house, that is a job for the professionals. Hire a contractor to come in and see what possible issues you might have in the long run, and take preventative measures as soon as feasible.

Create a Clear Landscaping Plan

You might get excited very quickly about the prospect of doing some DIY landscaping around your dream house. It’s good that you have the energy to do this. However, landscaping is not a short or temporary activity. If you want to do it most sensibly, you have to plan for the long term. Trees grow. Bushes and shrubs grow. Flowers grow and then die. You have to think seasonally in your area; otherwise, you will have unexpected surprises, especially when you think in terms of years rather than months.

Issues With Wet Areas

Some of the areas most susceptible to damage in your dream house are going to be your wet areas. Bathrooms and shower areas grow mold if you don’t figure out how to keep them dry. Ideally, you’ll come up with some way to maintain these wet areas daily, and you’ll also understand that structural integrity behind the walls plays an important part in keeping away moisture as well.

It’s not just enough that you have your dream house right now. You also have to figure out how to keep it in its ideal state over time. Preparation and preventative maintenance are going to be your best friends.
